Spotlight: Kmart - Tuscaloosa, AL

Kmart Store #3194 635 Skyland Blvd. Tuscaloosa, AL 35405

Today we are spotlighting the Tuscaloosa, Alabama Kmart that was submitted to us by one of our guest contributors. This submission comes from our unpublished archives as these pictures were taken and submitted to us back in 2012.

90's service desk and mismatched floor tiles.

This store was opened on November 25, 1974 and received a minor Big Kmart remodel upgrade in the 90's. Other than that this store is pretty much unchanged since it opened in the 70's. As you can see from the pictures the age and lack of updates/upgrades has really taken its toll on this store. It has mismatched tiles everywhere and a very old garden center sign. One positive of this store and the reason it has survived so long being so run down is its location. The store sits with great road visibility at the intersection of two busy roads. There is a Walmart about 2 miles away but nothing else really close to compete with Kmart.

Abandoned auto center bays.

This store features a large window front that the 70's stores had. A lot of the 70's stores had the majority of its front windows covered up over the years but this store still has them. This store has a long abandoned auto center, a pharmacy, and a hidden away layaway area. Being a 70's store, it originally had a Kmart cafeteria in the back of the store. You can see in the pictures where there's a ceiling arch and different tiles on the floor was where the original cafeteria was located at.

Enjoy the rest of the pictures below and be sure to check out the store in person as it is still open as of August 2016.
